When cities across the country competed for the next women’s National Basketball Association team, the league quietly submitted a trademark application this week to use the name “Detroit impact”.

The date of this file is Thursday, and the expected use is for basketball teams, products, jerseys and internal signs, which can appear on TV or broadcast. It can provide clues for the final decision of the league’s final decision.

On Friday, Tom Gores, the owner of the Detroit Pistons, proposed to the Motor City bid to receive a new team. The ownership group will be led by Gores, including the chief owner and chairman of the Detroit Lion team, SHEILA Ford Hamp; CHRIS Webber; General motor CEO Mary Barra, Jared Goff, a Detroit Lion, and Detroit Lion.

Gorce said in a statement: “Detroit is a sports town, and loves his team with unwavering enthusiasm.”

WNBA and Detroit Pistons did not immediately respond to CNBC’s comments on trademark applications.

According to Josh Gerben IPWho do not participate in specific files.

GERBEN said that unlike other teams of other professional sports leagues in other teams, WNBA has all the rights and logo rights of the league franchise rights.

GERBEN told CNBC: “Indirect evidence shows that (Detroit) is a winning bid, and they are very planned to submit this trademark application.”

However, Ge Ben said that the file may also be a way to protect themselves from “unauthorized occupation of land” or other ways to try to use the name.

In July 2023, a man named Ryan Reed submitted another trademark application to the “Detroit”, but the trademark has not been approved. It is said to be a person in the same name in Detroit, and he was determined to be the founder of the LinkedIn Women’s Basketball Alliance.

The Detroit impact was a WNBA team in Ouben Mountain, Michigan from 1998 to 2009. The team won three WNBA championships in 2006 and 2008 in 2006 and 2008. In 2009, the franchise was moved to Talza, Oklahoma, and they played in 2015 until today. They played Dallas wings in Alington, Texas.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in the WNBA final in October that at least 10 cities said they were interested in starting the expansion team.

Engelbert said, “We are not in a hurry. We want to bring it into ’27 years old or not late at the age of 27 or no later than’ 27 years old.”
