Vaughan Gething said on Tuesday he would resign as Wales’ first minister after four ministers resigned from the devolved Welsh government in protest against his leadership.
“After being elected leader of our party in March, I had hoped that this summer would be a period of reflection, rebuilding and renewal under my leadership,” Gethin said in a statement.
“I realize now that this is impossible.”
Four Wells ministers – General Counsel Mick Antonieff, Housing Minister Julie James, Economy and Energy Minister Jeremy Miles and Culture Minister Leslie Griffiths earlier in the day Resign.
Gethin has been criticized for the source of his political donations, the transparency of his disclosures to COVID-19 investigations while he was health minister, and his decision to fire a minister after he was accused of leaking to the media.
