former president Donald Trump Monday said he would provide Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk A cabinet post or advisory role in his government if he wins a second term White House.
Trump told Reuters in an interview that he would appoint Musk to such a position “if he wanted to.”
But the Republican candidate also said he would consider eliminating the $7,500 tax credit for certain new electric vehicles. This could impact Tesla’s business, which sells electric car.
“Tax credits and tax breaks are generally not a good thing,” Trump told Reuters after a campaign event in York, Pennsylvania.
Musk endorsed Trump in July, shortly after the former president narrowly escaped assassination at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania.
Trump to face off with Vice President Kamala Harristhe Democratic candidate in the November election.
