President-elect Donald Trump say tuesday Musk Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead an efficiency panel when his second term begins in January.
Trump wrote in a post that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) would “potentially become the ‘Manhattan Project’ of our time.” He also said the panel would pave the way for his next administration to “abolish government bureaucracy, cut redundant regulations, cut wasteful spending and reorganize federal agencies.”
Trump did not specify where the cuts would occur or when the department would be established. Congress has not created or funded such an office. He said the group’s “work will end no later than July 4, 2026.”
Trump has previously pledged Musk’s involvement in the envisioned organization and has been touted by the Trump administration.
