A judge on Friday denied his request to dismiss a New York criminal hush-money case against the president-elect Donald Trump It set Trump’s sentencing for January 10, less than two weeks before he will be sworn in for a second term in the White House.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan also said in a written order that he would not sentence Trump to prison in the case.
Merchant also said Trump could choose to appear in person or virtually for next week’s sentencing.
Trump was convicted in a trial last year of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with his then-personal attorney Michael Cohen’s alleged solicitation of porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Daniels paid $130,000 in hush money.
