President Donald Trump began mass firing federal workers on Thursday.
The Personnel Management Office met with acting leaders and advised them to fire probation employees, according to people familiar with the matter.
According to the data, thousands of people may be affected Personnel Management Officealthough the exact number of people to be terminated is not clear.
Employees with probation status usually only work in the federal government for one or two years before all civil servant protections begin.
“The probation period is a continuation of the job application process, not a right to permanent employment,” an OPM spokesperson said in a statement. “In view of the recent recruitment freeze and support for the president in restructuring and simplifying the federal government to the highest standards for the American people,” an OPM spokesperson said. A wide range of efforts to serve the American people well, agencies are taking independent action.”
