The 10 most liveable cities in the world; Vienna, Copenhagen top the list: Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) | Real Time Headlines

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2024 Global Liveability Index, Vienna, Austria, is the most “livable” city in the world.

The Austrian capital Vienna is the world’s most liveable city for the third year in a row, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The annual report, designed to demonstrate a city’s comfort or livability, surveyed 173 cities around the world based on 30 indicators across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

With its perfect scores for stability, healthcare, education and infrastructure, Vienna tops this year’s list, followed by its Western European peers: Copenhagen, Denmark, in second place and Zurich, Switzerland, in third.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Vienna’s overall score in the culture and environment category was slightly affected “due to the lack of major sporting events” Global Liveability Index 2024.

“Of the 58 Asian cities in the index, 16 achieved the highest level of liveability (scoring over 80),” said Barsali Bhattacharyya, deputy director of industry at EIU.

The stable category saw the largest decline of all five categories this year due to geopolitical conflicts, civil unrest and the ongoing housing crisis and crime in many of the cities surveyed, the report said.
