Southwest Airlines It is cutting about 15% of its company jobs, or about 1,750 people, a move called “unprecedented” as the company scrambles to cut costs.
The company said it expects net savings to be $210 million this year, with a net savings of about $300 million in 2026. CEO Bob Jordan said in a staff note seen by CNBC that the layoffs will be completed primarily before the end of the second quarter and include some senior leadership positions.
“This decision is unprecedented in our 53-year history, and change requires us to make difficult decisions,” Jordan said in a press release. “When we turn Southwest into a slimmer, faster, and more We are at a critical moment when we are agile.”
