Southwest Airlines to cut service, personnel in Atlanta to cut costs | Real Time Headlines

Southwest Airlines The airline plans to reduce flights to and from Atlanta next year, cutting more than 300 pilot and flight attendant positions, according to a company memo seen by CNBC.

The changes come a day before Southwest’s Investor Day, when executives will lay out the company’s plans to cut costs and increase revenue in response to pressure from: Activist investor Elliott Management.

Southwest Airlines told employees it will not close its crew base in Atlanta. Instead, it will cut as many as 200 flight attendants and as many as 140 pilots during the April 2025 bid month.

Southwest is not laying off employees, but they may have to bid for jobs from other cities.

“Despite our best efforts before making difficult decisions like this, we simply cannot afford continued losses and must make this change to help restore our profitability,” Southwest said in the memo. “This This decision in no way reflects the performance of our employees, we are proud of ATL’s hospitality and their efforts and will continue to contribute to our customers.”
