The land beneath many American cities is sinking. Known as land subsidence, this natural and man-made phenomenon can have a direct impact on home values and put critical infrastructure such as railways and airports at risk. Fortunately, some land subsidence can be reversed. “It’s not cheap, it’s not easy. But we have the tools in our toolbox to do this and see the results … within months or years,” said Manoochehr, a professor of geophysics and remote sensing at Virginia Tech. Shirzaei said.
