Serena Williams joins Toronto’s WNBA ownership group | Real Time Headlines

Serena Williams is one of the greatest champions in sports, joining Canada’s first WNBA team as managing partner.

Tennis superstar Serena Williams continues to invest in women’s sports and stake in new ownership of the Women’s National Basketball Association Toronto timethe team announced on Monday.

Tempo is WNBA’s first expansion team in Canada and will start the 2026 season and is also owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures Chairman Larry Tanenbaum.

“I have been saying that Women’s Sports is an incredible investment opportunity. I’m excited to partner with Larry and a Canadian company across to create this new WNBA franchise and legacy,” Williams said in a statement.

The size of Williams’ shares was not disclosed.

As part of Williams’ role in the team, she will play an active role in the visual appearance of the team, from Jersey design to merchandise collaboration.

“Serena is the champion,” said Teresa Resch, president of Tempo Basketball Club. “She is the greatest athlete of all time and her impact on this team will be incredible.”

The deal is ahead of the final approval of the alliance.
