According to NBC News, Republicans are expected to regain majority control of the U.S. Senate in 2025.

Democrats won 47 of the 100 seats in the Senate in Tuesday’s election. But four independents in the House caucus combined with Democrats to give the party a majority.

Republicans arguably face an easier path to regaining the Senate majority this election cycle, and will have at least 51 seats in the chamber when members of Congress are sworn in in January.

Republicans are defending only 11 seats where candidates are seeking re-election, while Democrats are trying to hold on to 23 seats.

In Ohio, NBC News projects Republican candidate Bernie Moreno will unseat incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, boosting the Republican effort.

Another Republican victory came in West Virginia, where Gov. Jim Justice swept the race to succeed Sen. Joe Manchin, who was set to Democrats, but did not seek re-election. Manchin quit the party in May.

In Nebraska, incumbent Republican Sen. Deb Fisher won re-election.

A total of more than $1 billion is expected to be spent by Election Day to win three key seats in Montana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
