Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon told CNBC that the latest modems will create a lot of distance in terms of performance applethis is the first step to get involved in technology.
Modems are a key component of smartphones that connect devices to mobile networks. Qualcomm is one of the world’s largest modem suppliers and has been the company of choice for Apple’s iPhone for many years.

This week, Qualcomm announced the X85, its latest high-end modem. In an interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Amon touted the improved performance of the modem, which suggests it will create a big bay between IT and Apple.
“This is the first modem with a lot of AI, and it actually increases the performance range of the modem, so the modem can handle weaker signals,” Amon told CNBC.
“When you compare what Qualcomm can do with what Apple is doing, it will set a huge delta between the performance of advanced Android devices and iOS devices.”
The iPhone 16e is Apple’s cheapest smartphone. Several reports suggest that Apple is working on modems for its high-end iPhone modems.
Amon reiterated his previous statement that he hopes Qualcomm will not provide Apple modems in 2027.
Amon said it solved potential technological advances in Apple’s modems, saying that these components will be key to AI and Qualcomm, and Qualcomm will be able to solve this problem.
“If the modem is relevant, there is always a place for Qualcomm technology,” Amon said.
“In the AI era, modems will be more important than ever. I think this will make consumers prefer the best modems they want to use in computers all the time,” Amon added.
