Greek authorities on Tuesday issued an evacuation alert for the seaside town of Novo Macri in eastern Attica as firefighters continued to battle a raging fire on the outskirts of Athens.
Hundreds of European firefighters, backed by fire trucks and water bombing aircraft, are trying to contain the country’s worst wildfires of the year. According to Sky News, the fire started on Sunday about 20 miles from Athens.
Strong winds and sweltering temperatures pose dangers for the southern European country.
