Chinese smartphone company Oppo announced its new flagship foldable phone on Thursday, touting a slim body and AI-centric features to bid for competition with high-end foldable devices Samsung and Huawei.
The company’s discovery N5 phones can be folded in half and retail for 2,499 Singapore dollars ($1,867.70).
When folded and closed, the Find N5 looks like a regular bar phone with a 6.62-inch display. It can then be folded outward to show a larger 8.12-inch tablet.
Most notably, the phone has an ultra-thin design. When closed, it measures 8.93 mm thick, while when opened in tablet form, the N5 was found to have a depth of 4.21 mm.
That’s thinner than Samsung Galaxy Discount 6South Korean technology giant Released last year.
The device is a razor-5,600 milliampere hour (MAH) battery inside, which does not exceed the credit card. Oppo said the battery fuses a silicon carbon material that, despite its smaller size, still has a high capacity battery.
Oppo hopes it can win business from companies like Samsung and Chinese tech giant Huawei, two major smartphone players who are trying to get out of the market from new models that are slowing innovation, which can bend over.

AI Assistant Functions
Like many other smartphone manufacturers, Oppo invests more in devices in AI-centric features.
The OPPO FIND N5 has a three-type camera setup that includes a telephoto lens that can be scaled down to 30 times, thanks to AI-powered image enhancement, called AI telescope zoom.
It also comes with a personal AI assistant that explains and summarizes documents, generates a summary of the phone, and then translates video calls and other content displayed on the screen.
When addressing privacy issues, OPPO said that some data is processed directly on the device, while others are stored in the cloud. In the international market, OPPO uses Google as its AI and cloud computing technology partner.
An Oppo spokesman told CNBC that the company “strictly complies with local laws, regulations and privacy security protection requirements.”
Samsung recently launched other AI features on it New flagship Galaxy S25 seriesincluding the ability to perform tasks across multiple applications when prompted and the integration of Google’s Gemini AI Assistant.
Control Mac with Android phone
Oppo also talks about a new feature that allows users to connect their phones to their Mac computers. Using an app called O+ Connect, users can link the lookup N5 to any MAC desktop machine and immediately link photos and other files between devices to devices as long as they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Users can also choose to remotely control Mac from the N5 search. The Mac’s monitor can be turned off and then reappeared on the screen that looks for the N5. The remote control function only requires mobile Internet or Wi-Fi to synchronize the data of the Mac device with the search N5 in real time.

This feature uses a public MACOS application programming interface, which allows two different applications to communicate with each other. Oppo says O+ connections are “fully compliant with MacOS platform and software regulations.”
“Perhaps works of art when designing products with flexible display technology,” Ben Wood, chief analyst at market research firm CCS Insight told CNBC The Find N5.
Wood added that despite Huawei’s three-piece companion XT leading to some big fanfare, “Business-wise, I think smart money is still on the book-like role models that Samsung, Honor, Honor, Google and now Oppo have already provided.”
