Liam Payne, a member of the British pop band One Direction, died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina on Wednesday at the age of 31, local authorities said.
The Sistema de Atencion Medica de Emergencia said in a statement to Telemundo that Payne fell from a balcony in Palermo.
Emergency services SAME said police “responded to the hotel after receiving a 911 call reporting an aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”. The agency said it confirmed Payne’s death.
The British singer is one of four members of One Direction, known for hits such as “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story Of My Life.”
The band, which also includes Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, has been on indefinite hiatus since 2016.

One Direction formed in 2010 after appearing on the TV show “The X Factor”.
The band, also known as 1D, has sold more than 50 million records and in 2014 became the first group to have a debut album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, according to Billboard.
After One Direction went on hiatus in 2016, Payne signed with Republic Records and launched a solo career after joining other bands including Styles.
In 2022, Payne entered rehab after criticizing One Direction and former member Zayn Malik on the Logan Paul podcast.
Payne said in a statement on July 8, 2023, Video has been uploaded to YouTube He is sober and a better father. He said he hadn’t had a drink in six months.
“In fact, it was probably one of those life-changing moments that kind of saved my life,” Payne said of the podcast.
Payne is the father of a toddler son named Bell.
