Adams’ attorney listed a leaked letter from former acting U.S. Attorney Danielle Sassoon, who went to Pam Bondi in mid-February.

Sassoon was one of at least seven resigned federal prosecutors, rather than complying with the Justice Department’s orders, demanding that the case be dismissed without prejudice, and the Justice Department can re-charge if it sees appropriate.
“To be sure, the February 12 letter, and the decision to leak it, were last acts of desperation in defense of a meritless case that never should have been pursued in the first place,” wrote Adams’ laws Alex Spiro and William Burck in Their Filed in the Federal Court of Manhattan.

Adams and his attorneys deny there was such a deal.
Adams’ lawyer wrote that the day after Sassson sent the letter, “someone in the government… continues to plague the trend of this investigation and is now prosecuting for more than a year.”
“The letter contains many false and inflammatory statements that make Mayor Adams irreparable,” the document said.
“The most appropriate right of recourse is to dismiss the case now and do so under prejudice,” the defense attorney wrote.
“It is based on the latest leak of this alone and is independent of the fact that the government itself hopes to have nothing to do with these priceless allegations, and it is true.”
CNBC has asked the Justice Department to comment on the new document.
