Check out the companies making headlines before the market opens. CRYPTO STOCKS – Stocks tied to the price of Bitcoin rose as cryptocurrencies edged higher on Tuesday. Bitcoin agency MicroStrategy gained nearly 5%, while crypto services provider Coinbase gained more than 2%. Shares of mining companies Mara Holdings and Riot Platform also rose more than 2% each. VeriSign – The internet stock rose more than 3% in premarket trading after a regulatory filing showed Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway bought more shares of the company. The group increased its holdings by 76,487 shares of VeriSign over the past three trading days, for a total of 15.6 million shares. The company also purchased the stock the previous week. Sangamo Therapeutics – Shares of Sangamo Therapeutics plunged more than 54% after the company said its partner Pfizer had terminated a joint development agreement for a gene therapy for hemophilia A, delaying the prospect of bringing the development to market. Sangamo now owns the rights to the product and says it will explore options to move it forward. Meanwhile, Pfizer shares rose 0.3%. EQT – Shares of EQT rose less than 1% daily after the energy company announced the closure of its midstream joint venture with Blackstone Credit & Insurance. EQT received $3.5 billion in net proceeds from Blackstone as a non-controlling common equity interest in the new joint venture, and the energy company used the funds to repay some of its outstanding debt. The stock has surged this quarter, rising more than 27% as natural gas prices soar. Tesla — The electric car stock rose 1.7%, reigniting its year-end rally after three consecutive sessions of losses. Despite the recent pullback, Tesla shares soared nearly 21% in December, bringing the big tech stock’s annual gain to about 68%. Super Micro Computer – The stock was up more than 1% after the close in the previous session, making it the worst performer in the S&P 500, down about 4%. While the stock is still up about 8% this year, it has fallen sharply by the end of the year and is down 6% so far this month. Nvidia – The chip maker gained nearly 1%, adding to the previous session’s gains.
