Last month, data company Numbeo released its annual report Cost of living index by city.

The final rankings are based on data from January to mid-2024. The index is historical and will be updated regularly. Number benchmarked New York City’s cost of living and gave it a score of 100.

Cities are scored based on the following metrics:

  • living cost
  • rent
  • Living expenses plus rent
  • groceries
  • Restaurant prices
  • local purchasing power

The United States has the largest number of cities on the list, accounting for 7 of the top 10 cities.

The most expensive city to live in: Geneva, Switzerland

Cost of living index score: 101.7

According to the Cost of Living Index, Geneva, Switzerland is the most expensive city in the world. Prices in the city are 1.7% higher than in New York.

Zurich is the second most expensive city in the world. 0.4% more expensive than New York City.

Zurich has been rated as The most liveable cities in the world. This is partly due to its cleanliness, political stability and infrastructure.

According to statistics, the monthly cost of living for a family of four is estimated at $6,184 per month, not including rent, while the monthly cost of living for one person is estimated at $1,689, not including rent. Nubeo.

Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city and one of the country’s financial centers.

According to Numbeo’s City Cost of Living Index, New York City is the third most expensive city in the world. It is the most expensive of all U.S. cities to make the top ten list.

New York is home to major companies such as Google and JPMorgan Chase. According to statistics, the cost of living in New York City is 128% higher than the national average salary scale.

New York is known for its high rents. According to statistics, as of June 2024, the city’s median monthly rent for all bedroom counts and property types is $4,480, 122% higher than the national average Zamper.

Conversion from Swiss Francs to US Dollars is done using the OANDA exchange rate as of August 8, 2024 (1 CHF to US$1.14).
