OpenAI gained popularity in late 2022 after releasing ChatGPT, a chatbot that can answer user questions in a human-like manner. The company also has tools that can generate images and videos based on text prompts. OpenAI currently has annual revenue of $3.4 billion and has notable clients including PricewaterhouseCoopersModerna and Estée Lauder. Microsoft has invested approximately $13 billion in the artificial intelligence startup.
