Kroger plans to lower price by $1 billion after Albertsons merger closes | Real Time Headlines

Supermarket chain hook up Plans to cut grocery prices by $1 billion after completing $25 billion merger with smaller rival Albertsonsa company spokesman said Thursday.

Kroger has previously pledged to lower grocery prices at Albertsons stores by $500 million.

Bloomberg News reported the development earlier in the day.

Supermarket mega-merger first announced October 2022is expected to create a grocery empire with more than 4,000 stores. But the deal faced multiple antitrust lawsuits over concerns it would drive up grocery prices. Washington State Attorney General is first challenge.

The proposed merger is stopped A ruling on a lawsuit filed last month to block the deal was pending in a Colorado district court. State Attorney General Phil Weiser said the trial is scheduled to begin on September 30.
