U.S. envoys of Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, said on Saturday that peace plans for the two warring countries could be realized in days or weeks.
“My time at Trump,” Kellogg told deputies at a fringe event at the Munich Security Conference.
“He wants you to do this today, why doesn’t he solve it tomorrow,” said Kellogg, a key negotiator in the recently proposed peace talks by Ukraine and its allies.
“You have to give us a little room and time to breathe, but when I say that, I’m not talking about six months, I’m talking about days and weeks,” he said.
Kellogg said there is currently a “dual-track” approach to peaceful negotiations, with the U.S. representative liaison with Russia and separate from Ukraine and its allies. Kellogg said he was working on behalf of the latter and insisted that – contrary to earlier U.S. proposals, both Ukraine and Europe must be part of these negotiations.
He said: “You have to lead allies.
He added: “We want to make sure it is lasting and is sustainable peace.”
When asked if he could outline the requirements for reliable security assurance in Ukraine, Kellogg said he could not do so.
