Japan’s GDP expanded by 0.7% in the fourth quarter | Real Time Headlines

Preliminary government data shows that Japan’s economic expansion in the fourth quarter beat analyst expectations for quarter-quarter and annualized growth, depending on the growth of exports.

GDP grew 0.7% in the quarter, Economists polled by Reuters expected a 0.3% increase. It has been revised 0.4% in the previous quarter.

Compared with the previous quarter, growth in exports helped increase GDP, while domestic demand contracted slightly.

Japan’s economy grew 1.2% year-on-year in the fourth quarter, while the economy grew 0.6% in the third quarter.

Although growth in the fourth quarter exceeded expectations, the rate of full-year GDP growth slowed to 0.1%, a sharp decline from 1.5% growth in 2023.
