Protests broke out across India this week, with hundreds of thousands of medical professionals and activists taking to the streets to call for greater protection of health care workers following an incident in the eastern city of Kolkata, capital of the Indian state of West Bengal.
The IMA claimed the murder and rape cases were handled “crudely” by police and authorities.
Reuters reports The 31-year-old victim was killed inside the medical school where she worked and was found dead on Friday.
The victim reportedly suffered bleeding from his eyes and mouth and injuries to his legs, abdomen, ankle, right hand and fingers. Police said she was raped and a police volunteer was later arrested on suspicion of the crime.

Earlier this week, several government hospitals in the world’s most populous country temporarily suspended non-emergency services in protest at the incident.
Thousands of women in West Bengal also marched on Thursday, India’s Independence Day, to demand justice for the victims. local media reported.
