Berlin – The Christian Democratic League and the Allied Christian Social League won the largest votes in the German federal election, according to the exit poll by German broadcaster ZDF.
This puts the party’s chief candidate Friedrich Merz in a main position, taking over as prime minister of Europe’s largest economy from Olaf Scholz.
According to ZDF exit poll data, CDU-CSU won 28.5% of the vote, the far-right AFD ranked second, while Scholz’s Social Democrats ranked third with 16.5%.
