Ford Motor Company The company will donate $1 million and a fleet of vehicles to U.S. President-elect Trump’s inauguration in January, a company spokesman said on Monday.
Tariffs and electric vehicle policies being considered by the incoming administration could affect Detroit automakers like Ford, which are working to expand and sell their battery-powered models.
Republican Trump has proposed imposing steep tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada and eliminating electric vehicle tax credits that benefit Ford.
Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley told reporters earlier this month that he was optimistic that Trump would be willing to listen to the U.S. automaker’s views on the actions.
“(Given) Ford’s employment profile and importance to the U.S. economy and manufacturing, you can imagine the government would be very interested in Ford’s views,” Farley said.
Other major companies, including Amazon and Meta Platforms, are also donating to the upcoming inauguration.
Trump raised a record $106.7 million for the 2017 celebration.
Democratic President Joe Biden raised $61.8 million for his 2021 inauguration, with donations from including Pfizer, AT&T and boeing company.
