The investigation has not found any evidence that the drones found were involved in illegal activity or malicious behavior, and the U.S. Coast Guard has found no evidence of foreign involvement offshore.
“At this time, we have found no basis to believe that these drones were involved in any criminal activity, present any national security threat, represent any specific public safety threat, or represent a malicious foreign actor,” DHS officials said.
Since mid-November, the FBI has been investigating hundreds of reports of drones operating at night, most of which are larger than those used by amateurs.
FBI officer Thursday said Drone sightings “pose a threat to national security or public safety.”
