Denzo Washington is Hollywood royalty, but the two-time Academy Award winner still remembers how it felt when his acting career threatened to pass him by.
during an interview British Vogue While promoting Gladiator II, Washington and co-star Paul Mescal were asked when they felt they had “made it” in their careers.
Mescal, 28, said he felt like he had made it the first time he was paid to act in a play. However, Washington was brought back to his pantry early in his career.
“I remember keeping the canned goods,” he said. “Whenever I stop hoarding canned goods, I know I’m successful.”
The 69-year-old “Training Day” star said that when he was younger, he was very focused on his job and what others wanted to see from him. Now, he’s better able to enjoy life outside of the big screen.

“After 50 years of experience, I learned to let it all go and go home,” Washington said. “My happiness doesn’t come from the roles I play or the accolades people give me.”
In fact, Washington doesn’t like revisiting his work, telling the times In an interview, he said that he does not watch movies starring himself.
“I’ve never seen any of my past movies from beginning to end, not even ‘Malcolm X,'” he said. “All you see is what you did wrong. And why do you do it?”
Washington told Mescal that he should not listen to others but “listen to himself” when planning his career.
