A campaign spokesman said Friday that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz “misspoke” in a 2018 video circulated by the Harris campaign earlier this week in which the vice presidential nominee discussed his role in The situation of handling weapons “in war”.
The clarification came after Republicans, led by Army veteran and vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, attacked Walz. About his military record.
“Governor Walz would never insult or undermine any American’s service to this country — in fact, he thanks Senator Vance for risking his life for our country. That’s the American way,” a campaign spokesman said in a statement said in a statement.
“The governor got it wrong when he explained why weapons of war should never be on our streets or in our classrooms. He did handle weapons of war and firmly believed that only service members trained to carry these deadly weapons should use them, unlike Donald Trump. Trump, unlike J.D. Vance, prioritizes the gun lobby over our children,” the spokesperson added.
this video clip Walz’s previous remarks have shown him discussing gun control and mentioning his own military background. “We can make sure that those weapons of war that I carried into the war are the only places where those weapons are kept,” Walz said in a video released by the Harris campaign on Tuesday.
Walz was not deployed to a combat zone during his military service.
