For 20 years in a row, Cameron Diaz was a Hollywood staple.

From her debut in 1994’s The Mask to her final appearance in 2014’s Annie, Diaz appeared in at least one movie per year. But despite her years of running success, the 52-year-old recently said that the best years of her life came after she left movies.

“I love it. It’s been the best ten years of my life,” Diaz said. “I just have the freedom to be (like ‘I’m a mom, I’m a wife, I’m living my life.'”

She said that when she first began to retire, she still received offers for roles. But after continually rejecting them, “people stopped asking.”

Still, Diaz isn’t promising another 20 years of movies. Her upcoming projects are currently scheduled for 2025 and 2026.

“This might be the beginning, and maybe I’ll tip my toes. Maybe I’ll go for the gun. I don’t know,” she said. “But it’s here and I’m really grateful.”
