The Brazilian government will provide Yuan Deputy Attorney General Jorge Mecias said Friday that changes to his fact-checking program would not be explained until Monday.
The social media company previously canceled its U.S. fact-checking program and reduced restrictions on discussion of topics such as immigration and gender identity.
It’s unclear what will happen after the deadline expires.
“I want to express the Brazilian government’s great concern about the policies adopted by Meta, which is like a windsock at the airport that changes position at any time depending on the direction of the wind,” Messias, the government’s chief lawyer, told reporters.
“Brazilian society will not be at the mercy of this kind of policy,” Mesias added.
On Thursday, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said the changes were “extremely serious” and announced he had convened a meeting to discuss the topic.
Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The CEO announced the move on Tuesday. Mark Zuckerberg Quote “Too many mistakes and too much scrutiny.” A spokesman said Tuesday that Meta currently plans to make adjustments only for the U.S. market.
