Amazon questioned by House committee over TikTok deal ‘dangerous’ | Real Time Headlines

Amazon Representatives have met with the House China Committee in recent months to discuss lawmakers’ concerns about the company’s work with TikTok, CNBC confirmed.

A spokesman for the House Select Committee on Chinese Communist Party confirmed the meeting, which focused on the shopping deal between Amazon and TikTok announced in august. The agreement allows users of TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance, to link their accounts to Amazon and make purchases from the site without leaving TikTok.

“The Special Committee advised Amazon that it would be dangerous and unwise for Amazon to partner with TikTok given the serious threat it poses to national security,” the spokesperson said. The two sides reportedly met in September Bloombergfirst reported the news.

Representatives for Amazon and TikTok did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

TikTok’s future viability in the United States is uncertain. April, President Joe Biden Signed a law requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok by January 19.
