one American Airlines The airline said it was later proved “impossible” to fly from New York to New Delhi, India, and was safely landed in Rome on Sunday afternoon due to safety concerns.
American Airlines said Flight 292 was “under inspection by law enforcement” and was “cleared and re-exited” after landing at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.
It did not clarify the cause of the safety issues, but the protocol needed to be inspected before the flight could land in New Delhi.
“This flight will be overnight in Rome to allow the required crew to rest and then continue to Delhi as soon as tomorrow,” the airline said.
An Associated Press reporter photographed two fighter planes flying at the airport shortly before unplanned landing. After landing, a fire truck can be seen on the landing belt on one side of the plane.
Neeraj Chopra, one of the passengers’ passengers, said the captain warned the plane that they would take about three hours and then they should have landed in Deli when it was supposed to have landed in Deli due to a change in “safety status”.

“I’m a little panicked, okay, what’s going on?” Chopra told the Associated Press. “Things have to happen here.”
Chopra said he had a new flight on Monday.
