The United States has obtained Iranian Plot to assassinate former president Donald Trump Three officials with knowledge of the situation in recent weeks told NBC News on Tuesday.

The intelligence prompted the U.S. Secret Service to increase security around Republican presidential candidate Trump, officials said.

On Saturday, 20-year-old gunman Thomas Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

CNN first reported the news The truth about the Iranian conspiracy, which raises more questions about the Secret Service’s failure to stop Crooks from firing from the roof of a nearby building.

National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement that law enforcement authorities investigating Crooks’ shooting “have not discovered a connection between the shooter and any domestic or foreign co-conspirators or co-conspirators.”

“As we have said many times, we have been tracking Iranian threats against former Trump administration officials for years, dating back to the previous administration,” Watson said.

“These threats stem from Iran’s desire to avenge the killing of Qassem Soleimani. We consider this to be the highest national and homeland security priority,” she said.

Soleimani, then Iran’s most powerful general, was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad, Iraq, in January 2020 when Trump was president.

The Secret Service, which is charged with protecting former presidents and major presidential candidates, has faced heavy criticism for failing to stop Crooks from shooting Trump and rally attendees. The shooting, which occurred two days before Trump was officially nominated as the Republican presidential nominee at the Republican convention in Milwaukee, left one man dead and two others seriously injured.

The agency said it was the responsibility of local Butler Township police to secure the building because it was outside the security “boundary” of the rally site, which is the responsibility of the Secret Service.
