A pro-Palestinian protest broke out outside the New York Stock Exchange on Monday. Trading was undisturbed and no protesters appeared to have arrived on the historic trading floor.

The New York Stock Exchange security fence separates the perimeter area outside the Broad Street building in Lower Manhattan. According to videos shared on social media, a group representing Jewish Voice for Peace broke into the area and protesters chained themselves to security fences and some exterior doors. Video shows some protesters being arrested and led away in ties.

The exchange restricted access to the building due to the protests. At noon, the NYPD was clearing the last of the people from outside security gates. There were still people outside the outer door.

Slogans such as “We want housing, not genocide” and “Let Gaza survive” could be heard in a live broadcast on social media platform X.

“As Gaza is bombed, Wall Street booms,” Jewish Voice for Peace said in a post on Monday. “Weapons manufacturers’ stock prices have skyrocketed this year. America’s war economy is profiting from genocide.”

The New York Stock Exchange declined to comment.

The protests followed continued bloodshed in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict triggered by Hamas attacks in southern Israel more than a year ago. Israel has since implemented Military attack on Gaza. The New York Stock Exchange has maintained tight security measures since the 9/11 attacks on the nearby World Trade Center towers.
