Delta Air Lines The company has had to suspend hot meal service on more than 200 flights out of its metro Detroit hub at Wayne County Airport over the past few days due to “food safety concerns.”
Delta said operations at the facility are closed and hot food will be managed by other kitchens.
“During a recent inspection of the DTW kitchen, Delta’s catering partners were notified of food safety issues within the facility,” Delta said in a statement Sunday. “Delta and its catering partners Hot food production was immediately shut down and all activities at the facility were subsequently suspended. Hot food and other in-flight supplies will be managed by other facilities.”
A message sent to cabin crew on Friday said first-class meals could not be loaded due to “unforeseen supply chain issues” and the flight would be stocked with extra snacks.
The FDA did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday.
The airline said it had received no reports of staff or customers becoming sick and that affected customers were being compensated with travel vouchers or frequent flyer miles.
Airlines serve thousands of meals to passengers every day, often through third-party catering kitchens. Do & Co., which partners with Delta Air Lines, had no immediate comment.
