“For every swing state voter you refer, you will receive $47!” Musk wrote in a post on X, a social media site he owns. “Money comes easy.” If Trump is elected, he will become the 47th president of the United States.
The petition states that its signers support “First and Second Amendment rights” but does not include details about who the petition will be delivered to, when it will be delivered, or any demands made by the signer; all core elements of a traditional petition .
Instead, the petition seeks personal contact information for voters in swing states. After signing, all users, regardless of their state, will be directed to a page with voter registration links for just seven states: Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin state.
Musk’s American PAC The goal is to “get 1 million registered voters in swing states to sign their signatures in support of the Constitution, specifically the right to free speech and the right to bear arms.”
“This program is exclusively open to registered voters in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and North Carolina,” the PAC said.
The petition is not the first time a US political action committee has tried to collect valuable swing-state voter contact information online. But this is the first time the effort has included funding for people who help political action committees find registered voters.
Earlier this year, America PAC was briefly investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice. North Carolina Attorney General’s Office and michigan secretary of state’s office CNBC revealed that PACs are collecting the personal contact information of voters in battleground states under the guise of helping them register to vote.
In response to the investigation, the PAC told state officials it would fix several dead-end links on its website.
Musk said he is the founder of America PAC, an organization Donations received From people connected to him. But a federal disclosure report in July did not show any direct donations from Musk as of the end of June. The billionaire has reportedly donated to the PAC since then, but the next report isn’t due until mid-November.
CNBC has asked a Musk spokesperson to comment on the petition.
Musk’s push for the petition comes a day after he attended the Republican presidential candidate’s campaign rally in Butler, Pa., with Trump. On July 13, Trump suffered an assassination attempt in Butler.
“This is no ordinary election,” Musk told rally attendees on Saturday. “President Trump must win
to uphold the Constitution. He must win to preserve American democracy.

The link to the petition asks respondents if anyone referred them to the site, and then asks for that person’s email or mobile phone number.
It was unclear Monday how the PAC would actually deliver on its promised payments.
