China announced on wednesday It has appealed to the World Trade Organization, asking the organization to rule on Canada’s recent tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and metal products.

August, Canada declare It will follow in the footsteps of the United States and the European Union and impose 100% import tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, taxing Beijing over concerns about unfair subsidies. The tariffs take effect on October 1.

China’s Ministry of Commerce said in a statement that Canada “insists on following certain countries in taking unilateral repressive measures against China,” according to CNBC’s Chinese translation.

The ministry said it had filed a case against Canada’s “unilateralism and protectionist practices” at the World Trade Organization, adding that it had also launched an anti-discrimination investigation into Ottawa’s restrictions.

The measures will “disrupt and distort global industrial and supply chains,” the ministry added.

Canada’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
