Asia-Pacific markets opened lower on Wednesday ahead of July inflation data from Australia.
Minutes of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s last meeting showed the central bank had considered raising interest rates in an effort to curb inflation.
Australia’s weighted CPI is expected to slow to an annual rate of 3.4%, compared with 3.8% in June.
Australian S&P/ASX 200 Index The stock market opened down 0.40% before the CPI release.
Japanese Nikkei 225 Index was flat, while the Topix fell 0.3%.
Korean Cospi The small-cap Kosdaq fell 0.40%.
Hong Kong Hang Seng Index The futures index was at 17,871 points, lower than the Hang Seng Index’s last closing point of 17,874.67 points. Chinese online retailer JD.com Announced $5 billion buyback On Tuesday night, its U.S.-listed shares rose 2.24%.
All three major U.S. stock indexes closed higher overnight as investors focused on technology giant Nvidia’s earnings report on Wednesday. Dow Jones Industrial Average It rose slightly by 0.02% and closed at a new high at 41,250.5 points.
