Republican presidential running mate J.D. Vance said Thursday that he will debate Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz on October 1 and will also challenge his opponent for a second debate on September 18.
“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three debates,” Vance, the U.S. senator from Ohio, said in a statement. Post on X.
“I’m not only accepting the CBS debate on October 1st, I’m accepting the CNN debate on September 18th,” former presidential running mate Donald Trump explain. “I look forward to seeing you in both places!”

It was unclear whether Walz would agree to a second debate. A spokesperson for the Harris campaign did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Vance’s X post.
“CNN has invited Senator Vance and Governor Walz to participate in this fall’s vice presidential debate, and Senator Vance has accepted,” a CNN spokesperson told CNBC in a statement.
“We remain in constant communication with the campaigns to provide the American public with the opportunity to hear from the leading candidates for President and Vice President of the United States, and we look forward to programming in the fall,” the spokesperson said.
If Walz accepts a Sept. 18 debate with Vance, the event could divert attention from Trump, who is scheduled to be sentenced in a criminal case that day hush money case In New York.
