Trump holds hopes to hit 25% tariffs in last-minute deals with Mexico | Real Time Headlines

President Donald Trump The U.S. will impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Tuesday and cancel the last-minute agreement it hopes to reach, which will avoid a trade war with its top U.S. trading partners.

Speaking at the White House on Monday afternoon, Trump said there was no room for negotiations with two U.S. allies.

“They’ve all set it up. They’ll be effective tomorrow,” he said.

Trump signed an executive order to impose a 25% tariff on Mexico and imported a lot from Canada on February 1.

Trump confirmed last week that suspended tariffs in Mexico and Canada will be restarted on March 4, complaining that illegal drugs are still “influxing into our country from Mexico and Canada at very high and unacceptable levels.” He also announced an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imported goods.
