House Group Subpoena Tech Giant’s Speech on “Foreign Censorship” | Real Time Headlines

Jim Jordan, Chairman of Housing Justice, R-Ohio, Send a subpoena For eight technology companies, seeking attention to “censorship speeches” in the United States, asking for more information about their communication with foreign governments.

Subpoena sent to Google’s parents’ CEO Wednesday letter,,,,, Yuan,,,,, Amazon,,,,, apple,,,,, Microsoft and Tiktok, as well as X and video platform Rumble.

“The committee must understand how and to what extent foreign governments limit the U.S. access to legal speech in the U.S. and how much the Biden Harris administration has helped or taught to those efforts,” Jordan said in a statement.

CNBC contacts each subpoena company for comment. The only response came from Rumble, which said: “It has received subpoenas and we look forward to sharing information with the ongoing efforts of numerous governments around the world as they try to curb their innate right to self-expression.”

Jordan points out the EU’s Digital Service MethodIn the UK, a similar set of laws called the Online Services Act and regulations surrounding illegal content and hate speech in Brazil and Australia.

The Commission is seeking communications around companies’ compliance with “foreign review laws, regulations, judicial orders or other government-initiated efforts” and any internal letters discussing these matters.

The subpoena was after the Federal Trade Commission Launched last week Investigation of the “technical review system”. FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson said in a statement that the investigation would help the agency “better understand how these companies violate the law by silence and intimidating Americans to speak their ideas.”

The FTC’s public comment request defines a technology platform as a company that provides a range of services, from social media and video sharing to event planning and ride sharing.
