British supermarket group sainsbury’s It said on Thursday it planned to cut more than 3,000 employees to save money in response to a “particularly challenging cost environment.”

Sainsbury’s is also proposing to close the remaining pastry shops, hot food and pizza counters in its stores, as well as the remaining 61 Sainsbury’s cafes.
The company said it would seek to redeploy staff where possible.
Chief executive Simon Roberts said: “We face a particularly challenging cost environment, which means we have to make difficult choices about where we can invest and where we need to do something different to Make our business more efficient and effective.
