U.S. President Trump said his team is discussing imposing 10% tariffs on China, which could take effect as early as February 1.
“We’re talking about a 10 percent tariff on China because they’re shipping fentanyl to Mexico and Canada,” the president told reporters at the White House on Tuesday night.
“The date we are looking at is probably February 1,” he added.
Trump also noted on Tuesday that his team was discussing imposing tariffs of “about 25%” on Mexico and China.
The president’s comments came a day after he hinted that he would impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and China as early as February. “We are considering a 25% tax on Mexico and Canada because they allow large numbers of people” to cross the border, he said Monday.
