President Joe Biden on Monday pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, General Mark Milley, members of Congress investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and others who he said faced “baseless” threats for political purposes.

“These public servants have served our country with honor and distinction and should not be the targets of unjust and politically motivated prosecutions,” Biden said in a press release on his final morning in office.

“I believe in the rule of law, and I am optimistic that the power of our legal institutions will ultimately prevail over politics. But these are extraordinary circumstances, and I cannot in good conscience do nothing,” he said.
