Luigi Mangione When he was arrested by police in Pennsylvania, he had a handwritten note that said “Here come these parasites,” and police recognized him as a man wanted for murder. United HealthcareNBC News reported Tuesday.

“I do apologize for any conflict or trauma, but it had to be done,” Mangione wrote in the note, according to three law enforcement sources who spoke to NBC News.

The three-page note criticized UnitedHealthcare, the broader U.S. health care industry and businesses.
A New York state court warrant for Mangione’s arrest calls the note a “written admission of guilt in killing Thompson.”
Mangione was charged with murder and gun crimes by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office on Monday night, hours after Pennsylvania authorities charged him with gun crimes and forgery.
Mangione is scheduled to appear in court in Hollidaysburg, Pa., on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. ET for a hearing on his possible extradition to New York to face murder charges.

Police believe Mangioni deliberately targeted Thompson in the murder, which occurred as the 50-year-old father-of-two was attending a UHG Investor Day meeting at the Hilton Hotel.
“To the Fed, I will keep it short because I do respect what you do for our country,” Mangione wrote in his note.
“To spare you a lengthy investigation, I unequivocally state that I am not cooperating with anyone.”

Mangione, who comes from a wealthy Baltimore-area family and reportedly suffers from chronic back pain, was charged with murder and gun crimes by the Manhattan district attorney’s office hours after his arrest in Pennsylvania.
He was arrested earlier in the day at a McDonald’s in Altoona, was denied bail Monday night and is being held at a state prison in Pennsylvania.
Altoona police responded to the restaurant after receiving a report of a man acting suspiciously.
Mangione allegedly provided police with a fake New Jersey ID related to Thompson’s activities in New York before his killing, but eventually gave them his real name.

After detaining him, police found a 3D-printed gun and silencer, as well as multiple rounds of ammunition in his backpack, police said. New York police said the gun was “consistent” with the gun used to kill Thompson.
Mangione did not have an attorney of record as of Tuesday morning.
