The denied request had nothing to do with the July 13 shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania that left the former president injured, one person dead and two others seriously injured.
“In some cases, where specific Secret Service specialized units or resources are not available, the agency will make modifications to ensure the safety of protected persons,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told NBC News. “This may include utilizing state or local partners to provide specialized functions or otherwise identify alternatives to reduce the protected person’s public exposure.”
