Stellantis to close its van factory in Luton, UK | Real Time Headlines

European car manufacturers star Plans to close Vauxhall’s van factory in Luton, southern England, will put more than 1,000 jobs at risk, the company said on Tuesday.

The company, which also owns the Peugeot, Citroën, Chrysler and Fiat brands, said it would consolidate its UK light commercial vehicle production at its Ellesmere Port plant in northern England, where it is investing 50 million pounds ($63 million) A comprehensive factory.

The Milan-listed company said it planned to move “hundreds of jobs” from Luton to Ellesmere Port and had begun consultations with staff and unions.

The UK government said: “While it is encouraging to see Stellantis investing in the future of its Ellesmere Port site, we know this will be a worrying time for the families of Luton employees who may be affected. time.

The company did not say how many jobs would be affected.
