Robotics engineers are in high demand – so what is the job like? | Real Time Headlines

They are among the most in-demand tech jobs in the world, but what is a day in the life of a robotics engineer like? CNBC saw firsthand how robots are transforming three very different industries.

From operating rooms to factory floors and testing laboratories, robots are changing the way people work across multiple industries.

It’s no surprise, then, that robotics engineers are highly sought after, with an additional 9,000 robotics engineers expected to be employed in the U.S. alone by 2032, according to Sokanu’s Career Explorer.

Another hotspot for robotics engineers is the island nation of Singapore, the second most automated country after South Korea. According to the International Federation of Robotics, Singapore has 488 robot workers for every 10,000 employees. The global average is 74.

CNBC’s Most Wanted follows three Singaporeans who work with and program robots:

  • Chong Yew Lam has been a urologist for 16 years and heads the surgical department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore. He uses a surgical robotic system called “Da Vinci” to help him perform complex surgeries in a minimally invasive manner.
  • Kelvin Ching is a senior robotics engineer at Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), Singapore’s first electric vehicle factory. He leads a team of robotic engineers responsible for overseeing nearly 200 robots assembling the Hyundai IONIQ 6 model.
  • Sean Sabastian is Dyson’s Robotics Research Manager, where he manages a team of robotics experts working to integrate robots into home environments. He drew inspiration from his own chaotic home to help Dyson build robots that could help around the house.

Watch the video above and join them for a day at work.
