President-elect Donald Trump Fox News host and Army veteran Pete Hegseth was named as defense secretary on Tuesday.
in a statementTrump described Hegseth as “strong, smart and a true believer in America First.”
“With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies will take notice – our military will be great again and America will never back down,” Trump said.
During his first administration, Trump nominated James Mattis and later Mark Esper to lead the Pentagon.

Hegseth’s announcement comes as Trump picks a series of picks for his second administration. Earlier Tuesday, Trump said he would nominate the former director of national intelligence John Ratcliffe to be CIA Director.
On Monday, he reached out to Reps. Alice StefanikRN.Y., as his choice for United Nations ambassador and said he would nominate LizeldinA former House Republican from New York will lead the Environmental Protection Agency.
A day earlier, he appointed immigration hardliners Tom Homan as his “border czar”.
Trump made his first major government announcement last week, when he said Suzy WellsHis campaign manager will serve as White House chief of staff.
